The Ellastone Fastener

We are aiming to acquire and preserve a Bronze Age 'Dress Fastener' which discovered in Staffordshire through metal detection and subsequently declared treasure by the coronor. The artefact consistitues a nationally important discover and, as the county repository for archaeology, we are aiming to keep it within a publicly available museum collection, and in the same county as the find spot. The project also aims to support a programme of outreach and interpretation around this acquisition that will strengthen the skills and experience of staff and volunteers, drive visitor engagement with the wider museum collection, and give young people the opportunity to engage and co-create on the subject of archaeological treasure.
