The Leather Conservation Centre (LCC) holds a unique and internationally important role in the preservation of leather heritage. During the course of this project the LCC will establish itself in a new, public facing, environmentally conscious premises in Pilot House, Leicester City Centre setting itself on a sustainable footing for the future The new premises will create an inclusive hub for engagement, learning, skill sharing and research creating a holistic, far-reaching centre for the preservation of historic leather. An accompanying community outreach program will engage diverse audiences including families, young people age 16-25 and local schools and colleges in various aspects of museum practice, heritage and historic craft. Several new Professional and CPD courses will be designed and implemented to increase capacity in leather conservation and related specialisms, and resources including a comprehensive library will be publicly available to support research, learning and engagement at all levels.
