Museums And Archives
We will sensitively enhance this Grade II listed building, "Y Lanfa" and give more flexibility for the Community and Cultural Hub operating there, by enclosing the outside covered area, providing a new multi-purpose two-storey space for: • pop-up exhibitions, • group activities, • retail sales. To encourage engagement with local and wider audiences, we will significantly improve the accessibility of the building, wharf and museum collection, to include a much larger disabled lift, a re-telling of the collection and a new entrance. Improvements externally will include: • a railed-off canal-side activity area, • planting, benches and cycle racks, • improved external drainage, reducing the likelihood of flooding, • improved accessibility during icy conditions. • a resurfaced canal yard and disabled parking area. To future-proof the building and reduce its carbon footprint, solar panels, insulation and a new air-handling system will be installed, whilst upgrading storage facilities to safeguard museum artefacts.
