Historic Buildings
The Golcar Chapel Heritage Restoration & Sensory Garden Project
The 'Golcar Chapel Heritage & Sensory Garden Project' is about rescuing a neglected piece of local history and giving it a new purpose. We are transforming the dilapidated graveyard from a liability into a fully accessible community asset. Our main goal is to save the site from ruin by repairing the crumbling boundary walls and stabilising unsafe pathways. At the same time, we are creating a 'Sensory Heritage Garden' designed with adults with learning disabilities, people who are too often unable to access historic environments. We will install wheelchair-accessible paths and sensory zones to create a safe, therapeutic green space. This work will be delivered by our volunteers working side-by-side with our service users. We are determined to keep this site as a 'living' part of the village, ensuring our local heritage is preserved and accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical ability.
