The Hatters and the Sharks – Sheffield’s Basketball Pioneers

The Sheffield Hatters and Sheffield Sharks, women’s and men’s team respectively, are both pioneers in British basketball. This project will uncover and share the heritage of both clubs - the stories of their establishment, their achievements, their impact on the wider game and their work with local communities. This will allow both clubs to better understand and celebrate their rich heritage, sharing it with fans, players, sponsors, the basketball community and those without any knowledge of basketball. The heritage will be part of match days, the community outreach work they carry out, the alternative education provision they offer and feature within their recently completed purpose built home arena. This will include oral history recordings, wall panels, display screens, temporary exhibitions, permanent displays, websites, heritage celebration events, publications and the establishment of the clubs’ halls of fame. Heritage will become embedded in both clubs, through the project and beyond.
