The Isca Photographic Collection Project

The Isca Photographic Collection Project will rescue, preserve, publicise and promote a unique and irreplaceable visual record of twentieth-century Exeter and its inhabitants. We will have c.24,000 deteriorating acetate negatives digitised, with high-resolution TIF files being returned for ingest into our digital preservation system. The images will then be catalogued by a specially recruited team of volunteers, with another team working on cleaning and repackaging glass plate negatives. We will deliver events, including utilising the images in reminiscence sessions for residential homes; staging live and online exhibitions; and working with local environmental community groups to deliver sessions exploring the changing nature of the city’s environment. We will publicise our activities through our own hosted blogs, social media posts, and through developing a talk covering the rescue operation and the historical significance of the collection. We aim to make the Isca Collection a treasured resource for the people of Exeter.
