The Ladder: Cornwall’s Creative Engine House

Our capital project rescues and transforms the derelict Grade II listed Library and College buildings in Redruth into a centre for heritage, community, culture, and education. Funded with the Shared Prosperity Fund and Community Ownership Fund this work will provide the people of Redruth with a cafe, nursery, rehearsal space, community space, co-working space, dark room and artist studios. Working with the artistic organisations already in the building we will run an activities programme to explore, critique and respond to the history and ideas associated to our building. These include Cornish theatre through the contents of ‘Bill’s Attic’, adapting our streetscape to reflect hidden histories, a young people's social action project to link Passmore Edwards buildings and a participatory project for 0-3 year olds based on the internal fabric of the building. This work will capture the spirit and stories of an important building for the next generation.
