The New Norse Stars

In an area of low engagement we, the local people will bring our Viking heritage back to life. Our goal is increasing the diversity of people engaging with heritage by forming new community partnerships and using innovative methods. Young people, volunteers, refugees, heritage enthusiast groups and asylum seekers are signed up! The Vikings were here over a thousand years ago and seem distant and mysterious. We will make them real again through exciting performances, art, games and even a viking feast! The Furness Viking hoard is the biggest ever to have been found in our area, and has been described as a "missing link" as it is the first significant archaeological evidence of Norse inhabitation in Furness. The places we live (Barrow, Yarlside, Roa Island and Ormsgill) were named by Norse men and women. We need to find out more! Come and join us!
