The Restoration of Balmacara Old Mill Hall

Balmacara Community Trust would like to restore its derelict water powered sawmill as a community gathering space. Preserving its heritage features using sympathetic restoration techniques to create a space for people to gather and attend community events, celebrating the mills history. Surveys and initial works have revealed many historic features (archaeologist involvement) and we look to carefully manage these whilst establishing an inclusive space for people to come together. Balmacara does not have its own gathering space like outlying villages and is therefore at a disadvantage. It does have proud heritage ancestry and the Old Mill Hall, as the sawmill became known, is an integral part of the Balmacara Square steading complex at the heart of the village. The composition of the hall reflected the fashion for the development of Model Farms, we want to restore these features but with a more modern, community centered use.
