Museums And Archives
Located in The Wardrobe building in Salisbury’s historic Cathedral Close, our Military Museum has shared the stories of Berkshire and Wiltshire’s County Regiments for over forty years. Since opening in 1982, core exhibitions have remained largely unchanged. While a project to modernise the Museum is underway, it only has resources to address essential updates, bringing the Collection up to modern-day standards. Faced with the withdrawal of MOD funding, our new Trustee leadership team has developed a forward-looking strategy for growth and long-term sustainability. This pivotal NHLF application will enable us to introduce interactive technology, appoint a Community Engagement and Outreach Officer, improve our website, and create a temporary exhibition, activity space, and shop. These enhancements will revitalise the Museum, establishing it as a dynamic community hub and centre for historical learning. This project secures our legacy, ensuring the Museum’s vital role in Salisbury’s cultural landscape for the next fifty years.
