Tides of Change: Revitalising the Museum of Hartlepool and P.S. Wingfield Castle Paddle Steamer

This project will revitalise the Museum of Hartlepool and Paddle Steamship (P.S.) Wingfield Castle, making the rich industrial and maritime heritage of Hartlepool more accessible whilst also building organisational resilience and addressing long-term climate and environmental issues through: Conservation works to, and interpretation of, PS Wingfield Castle to reinstate it as part of the visitor experience; Renovation of the Museum site including a new entrance with welcome and retail facilities to improve access from the quayside, provide vistas through to the historic landscape of Jackson’s Dock and unlock access to PS Wingfield Castle; Reconfiguration of internal spaces, provision for community and learning facilities, increased and upgraded exhibition space and an overall improved visitor offer; As well as safeguarding the significant heritage of PS Wingfield Castle and Museum of Hartlepool’s collections, our project will create new, sustainable revenue streams and respond to the strong local demand evident in our consultation.
