Torre Abbey New Beginnings - Chapter One

Torre Abbey is Torbay’s most historic building complex dating from 1196. An ancient scheduled monument set within 18 acres of gardens and parkland. It’s an accredited museum owned by Torbay Council, home to an important collection it’s been a centre of religious and artistic expression and hospitality for 800 years. Chapter 1 is the first part of a two-part project to reset Torre Abbey in its landscape and enable the use of the whole site to generate income and create a financially sustainable future, allowing it to be enjoyed for generations to come. It will raise understanding of the importance of the site by reconnecting users with its heritage, through creative interpretation of the stories connected with the hidden archaeology. It will unlock the largest green space in Torquay enabling the enhancement of wildlife and biodiversity through planting ensuring the site is sustainable and resilient to climate change.
