Turning the Page

We believe that to understand our rapidly changing world, it's helpful to learn from the past. There have been many eras of technological revolution and associated social anxiety, from the advent of the printing press to the current debates around smartphones, social media and mental health. This project will save heritage by creating purpose designed shelving and display space for our rare newspaper and archive collections so that they can be preserved and made accessible for future generations, as well as the audiences of today. This project will include more people, by creating genuinely useful and thought-provoking workshops and digital literacy resources for 11–15 year-olds, exploring the themes of fake news, trolling and advertising, using our historic newspaper and archive collection. In this project, we will build on the momentum of The Next Chapter project and develop the Institution's appeal to reflect our new young audiences and their immediate reality.
