Two Lads at Smithills

We will safely restore Two Lads Cairn, a loved and cherished monument of the Smithills Estate. It will stand as a representation of the rich stories and past history of the Estate which we will digitally record, preserving memories from the local community of the legend of Two Lads Cairn. We will give an opportunity to community members to physically investigate the loved and varied legend of the cairns, by holding a community archaeological dig to discover what is buried at Two Lads Cairn, and how this fits with the different stories of the cairns captured as part of an oral history project. After completing restoration of the cairn, we will monitor visitor flow and numbers around the estate in order to consider the network of access tracks, in order to complete an access plan to allow safe access to a variety of audiences throughout the Smithills Estate.
