Tyne Theatre & Opera House - The Gallery Restoration Project
As part of our larger continuing capital restoration project our next project is to restore the upper gallery tier with new seats and improved sightlines. This part of our Masterplan identified an opportunity to improve comfort, sightlines and the customer experience whilst also increasing the seating capacity and in consequence our long term sustainability. The existing secondhand seating was installed over 40 years and has little empathy for the very special interior of our Grade I listed building. As part of the project we want to engage with a volunteering team, who will assist in the removal and installation of the new seating, whilst also expanding the highly successful performance database to include a special digital recording project "The Seat of Memories" - where members of the public will sit in one of the old seats and recall a visit and a performance to the theatre.
