Unlocking our Digital Heritage
Archives of IT is a unique living archive of oral history interviews with Britain's computing pioneers and tech leaders — the people who built the UK's digital economy from the 1950s onwards. Many are now in their 80s and 90s; their stories risk being lost forever. Through Unlocking Our Digital Heritage, we will transform how people discover and engage with this irreplaceable archive. A new AI-powered portal will allow anyone to search and explore over 300 interviews, while a new podcast channel will bring these remarkable stories to new audiences. Improved digital infrastructure will ensure the archive is preserved securely for generations to come. The legacy of this project will be a more accessible, more resilient and more impactful archive — one that inspires the next generation of tech talent, supports researchers and educators, and ensures the UK's pioneering computing heritage is never forgotten.
