Historic Buildings
Unlocking Ushaw will provide a long-term strategy for the whole estate that builds on the last ten years of development as a cultural and heritage destination. The aim is to preserve the site's rich heritage, while ensuring it remains relevant, accessible, and inclusive to diverse, contemporary audiences. The project approaches the complex site as a micro ‘heritage action zone’, with a focus on: · Masterplanning – to take a co-ordinated approach to unlock the potential of the entirety of the buildings and land across the estate, prioritising the two buildings on the Heritage at Risk register. · To take a holistic approach to placemaking by embedding community engagement at the heart of Ushaw’s programming and development. · To cement long term sustainability by growth of audiences through deeper understanding of potential and yet unreached audiences. Legacy: an more resilient Ushaw, expanding our mixed income business model, reaching even more people.
