Unlocking Woking's Heritage Collection

In 2027, The Lightbox Gallery and Museum (LGM) will celebrate its 20th anniversary. To mark this milestone, we want to develop this project to safeguard, interpret, and expand access to our unique Heritage Collection, which tells the story of Woking and Surrey. The project will update all collection records and, for the first time, digitise a significant selection of the collection, making it publicly accessible online. We will work closely with our Youth Collective, core volunteers, and a diverse range of community partners to create fresh, relevant interpretations of the Collection. This will ensure it reflects Woking’s changing demographic, reaches new audiences, and secures the involvement of a new generation of volunteers. The legacy of the project will be a sustainable Heritage Collection with an informed long-term audience development plan, strengthened conservation, and national visibility. Crucially, it will preserve invaluable volunteer knowledge while making Woking’s heritage accessible for future generations.
