UNTOLD Stories of the Irish in the British Army (Phase One)

This landmark project consolidates six at-risk regimental collections in Northern Ireland. Securing this vital heritage, it will deliver one museum on two sites (Belfast and Enniskillen) with Phase One developing the Belfast galleries for UNTOLD Stories of the Irish in the British Army. William Barre's B1 listed linen warehouse at 28 Bedford Street will be transformed into an engaging and sustainable heritage attraction, designed to appeal to a diverse community and tourist audience. Unique collections are at the heart of developing a dynamic visitor experience designed for research, learning for all, promotion of shared heritage, and greater understanding of complex and layered narratives. Exhibitions and programming focused on discovery will use artefacts and personal accounts to bring to life a wealth of stories, addressing socio-economic history, art, sporting achievements and advancements in STEM from the late 17th Century to the modern day. Dedicated education facilities will complement galleries developed with access and inclusion at the core of all activity. The all-island aspect of the story aligns with developments in north-south networks, while the location of the two sites, Belfast and Enniskillen, ensures continued links from west to east, reaching beyond the Belfast region.
