Voices of Leicester: a global city
This project will complete the transformation of Leicester’s flagship free-entry Museum and Art Gallery and enable the Grade II building’s original features to shine. We will deliver accessible, innovative gallery reinterpretation by working with the breadth of Leicester’s diverse communities. Their voices will be heard, and their views will be embedded in our approach. Untold stories will be shared, including the social forces that have shaped Leicester and its role in the climate change emergency, past and present. Heritage skills among staff, volunteers, partners, and new roles will ensure long-term preservation and accessibility. Enhanced collections management and new commercial activities will improve organisational sustainability. We will create an inclusive, diverse, and financially stable museum that educates, inspires, and connects with visitors for future generations. LMAG will be seen as relevant to those who pay for it and as a critical agent in delivering our Council’s priorities for equity and sustainability.
