Historic Buildings
We are Witham - Witham Past, Present, and Future
The Witham’s 180-year legacy in rural County Durham will be celebrated and sustained with more people enjoying a vibrant programme of heritage and cultural activities. Community-led heritage events will revitalise engagement and position the Witham within County Durham’s heritage economy and the Durham Story, attracting new visitors. Organisational resilience will ensure continuing access to this historic venue and preservation of the heritage buildings. Marketing, audience development, and fundraising will increase income and support long-term sustainability. A clear programming strategy will ensure inclusive access, engaging new audiences. Upskilled staff/volunteers will deliver high-quality experiences. Our strategy will strengthen resilience by balancing cultural programming with commercial income. Collaborating with other heritage venues, we will showcase our arts heritage through variety performances, pantomimes, and music. This project builds on the 2023 NLHF-funded business review and supports Heritage Lottery investment principles: increasing participation in local history and culture; reducing threats to heritage and improving sustainability.
