Wigan Museum: Our Northern Soul

We are seeking grant funding for the redevelopment of Wigan Museum. Following the launch of Wigan’s ambitious new Cultural Strategy: The Fire Within: The Forge in September 2025, this project will ignite the strategic development of heritage assets across the borough. It puts forward a new vision for Wigan Museum that is reflective of the needs of our communities, informed by co-creation and consultation, and helps to set the tone for long-term heritage engagement in Wigan. The project will refresh the exhibition displays at Wigan Museum, creating ‘a new heritage’ that better showcases Wigan’s distinct personality, collections and stories and the diverse and evolving communities of the borough. It will support the council’s Progress with Unity missions: creating fair opportunities for residents to get involved in culture through co-created and accessible content and helping our towns and neighbourhoods to flourish by celebrating our diverse communities and building pride in place.
