Museums And Archives
Our objective is that our community, that of the village of Winster in Derbyshire’s Peak National Park, will be working together to celebrate the cultural heritage of our popular annual celebratory social event, the “Wakes Week and Carnival”, and thus strengthening future engagement with it. Professional guidance will help us curate legacy memories, and a digital platform will be created allowing these memories to be exhibited and appreciated. Underpinning our idea is the knowledge that shared memories of previous social and cultural activities, as well as collective collaboration on anticipated future events, enhances social cohesion in a community; it enriches social health and wellbeing and fosters a strong sense of place. In addition, by combining workplace training with multi-faceted voluntary input, the organisers intend this project to be a blueprint against which other communities and neighbourhoods will be inspired to initiate and sustain equivalent activities enhancing their own cultural heritage.
