WW2 Spirit and the "Hope Of Cheadle"
This project will focus on life in Cheadle during WW2. Using the unique archive of Cheadle and Tean Times and other local newspapers, it will tell the story and impact of the war on rural life and community "spirit" in Cheadle; the women, industry and rural community that remained while the men were away at war. It will bring to life the story of the spitfire "Hope of Cheadle" and Motor torpedo boat bought by public donations to support the war effort! It will show how Cheadle’s Y station, connected to Bletchley Park, remained a secret for so long. In summary this project will engage the whole community in discovering and taking pride in their heritage.
