Culture And Memory
The “Foyle Flow: Our Stories, Our Rivers” project seeks to reconnect communities with the rich intangible cultural heritage linked to the rivers, burns and streams of the Foyle Catchment. While these waterways have shaped local identity, livelihoods and daily life from Neolithic times to today, much of the associated folklore, traditions and lived experience remains undocumented and at risk of being lost. Through a two-year, people-focused programme, Loughs Agency will deliver workshops, oral history recordings and participatory learning activities to capture and celebrate this heritage. Working collaboratively with communities, schools and heritage partners, the project will document placenames, fishing traditions, bridge histories, folklore and personal memories. By preserving and sharing these stories through exhibitions, digital outputs and educational resources, the project will safeguard this valuable heritage. It will also inspire greater community pride, awareness and long-term stewardship of the rivers for future generations.
