The project will celebrate and preserve the memories of both the 20th Island Games on Orkney in July 2025 as well as past Island Games where Scottish Islands hosted or participated in. The project will deliver four core activities: A ‘Memory Makers’ intergenerational programme to collect memories that will be publicly shared online, Set up two new Sporting Memories Clubs on Orkney for older people (50+) with reminiscence, social and physical activities, Capture and record formal oral histories of Scotland’s proud Island Games heritage and 40th anniversary of Island Games, developing a sustainable infrastructure and central Island Games online archive, Host an exhibition during the Games with memories, formal oral histories, photos etc of current and past participants, officials, spectators and volunteers. We will provide a legacy of the Orkney Island Games through sustainable content and activities with the support of upskilled volunteers for the community and public to access.
