27 Souls - The Last Launch

The ‘Last Launch’ Documentary project aims to achieve a lasting reconnection between communities and the story of The Mexico Disaster (1886) inspiring local pride, creativity, and ensuring this important maritime heritage is conserved and valued for the future. Timed for release in December 2026 marking the 140th anniversary of the tragedy the project will produce a powerful, community-led documentary-drama film and a commemorative sculpture, both of which will bring the story to life through local voices. Over two years, we will achieve greater inclusion, access, and participation by engaging people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in activities focused on storytelling, collecting oral history, and contributing to the design and creation of the sculpture. Participants will work alongside industry professionals as actors, crew, and artists, developing confidence, creativity, and transferable skills. By saving and celebrating this heritage now, we ensure it remains alive, accessible, and meaningful for generations to come.
