Culture And Memory
LGBT Foundation has been a repository of community resources, experiences, and life-changing stories for the past 50 years. These stories trace Greater Manchester’s LGBTQ+ history from decriminalisation to the present. We want to use our unique access to this heritage and trusted local reputation to bring Greater Manchester’s LGBTQ+ history to life. Our project will gather lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer people (LGBTQ+) in Greater Manchester (GM) to reflect on milestones and challenges of local activism since 1975 through exhibition and discussion of lived experience and archival materials. The project will also be a platform to record and share under-represented LGBTQ+ heritage. We will consolidate, create, and share LGBTQ+ stories, using the resources produced to instruct the future of LGBTQ+ community activism in GM and beyond. This project will enable LGBT Foundation to empower LGBTQ+ communities to continue the legacy of activism for the next 25 years and beyond.
