Culture And Memory
We wish to celebrate and preserve the first 60 years of Leeds Conservatoire’s impact on the city it serves. We will do this using three areas of activity: forming an archive of newly discovered material previously assumed lost; creation of new archival material and data such as oral histories and metadata; creative, bespoke, audience-focused heritage activities inspired by our pioneering first six decades. We are excited to collaborate with Leeds City Museum on a six-month exhibition. Working with music communities and cultural organisations, the exhibition will weave our stories into the city’s musical history. This exhibition and events programme will bring these stories together for the first time, igniting ways to maintain these new avenues via which residents, visitors and students will feel a part of the city’s cultural prowess. This supports the conservatoire’s long-term aim: to be a touchstone for celebrating Leeds intersectional musical past and present.
