Culture And Memory

A CELEBRATION OF THE ART, CULTURE AND PEOPLE OF KERALA THROUGH CLASSICAL KATHAKALI THEATRE.

Kathakali, a 17th century classical dance drama from Kerala, India, is extremely rare in the UK. The Kerala communities of Liverpool and Milton Keynes feel culturally under-represented and isolated. We want to rectify this by raising awareness of Kathakali, and other arts of Kerala, through an exciting, accessible, and enjoyable project for everyone, that explores, and preserves Kathakali, as follows: 1, Investigate the intangible cultural heritage (influences, skills, stories, and practices) of Kathakali. 2, Prepare our Kathakali costumes for bequeathment to the V&A Museum. 3, Preserve the heritage of the Kerala communities of Milton Keynes, Liverpool, and beyond, by recording and archiving their stories, traditions and memories. 4, Bring a wide range of people together to experience Kathakali, through research, an exhibition, informative workshops, and breathtaking performances. To achieve this, experienced world-class artists will bring Kathakali alive, through storytelling and stunning costumes, to provide a lasting experience of Kerala heritage.
