Alfred Savin and the Fossil Collectors of Cromer

Create new gallery and online digital presentation at Cromer Museum about Alfred Savin (1860-1948), his importance as a geologist and palaeontologist, fossil collector Anna Gurney(1795-1857) and more contemporary collectors who discovered the first bone of the most complete Steppe Mammoth skeleton ever found in Britain. The gallery and an online module will use 3D modelling, video and interactivity around the Savin, Gurney and other collections. Add photographs and 3D models to the existing catalogues of the collections. Digitally draw together the many artefacts of Savin's collection currently held at various museums; provide handling models through 3D printing. Give opportunities through activities, events and volunteering by children and families in the district to know more about these significant collectors and authorities. Further develop the district-wide 'Deep History' project, somewhat set back by Covid. Support and provide visible output space from the newly appointed Climate Curator (post funded by the District Council).
