Nature And Landscape

Andrew Street Pond

We managed to buy the project area from developers in a neglected state, inaccessible, overgrown with the pond totally overtaken by bulrushes. We wanted to make the area accessible to the community and create a healthy pond to attract wildlife. Whilst working together on the area we discovered more about its history going back to 1863 and realised it was a significant part of Mossley's heritage. The aims of our project are to: - recover and sustain the area's heritage and increase the community's understanding of its historical importance locally; - create opportunities for local people and other community groups to connect together through volunteering and/or visiting the area; - help people develop new skills including beekeeping, landscaping and protecting the environment; - improve habitats to attract and reintroduce wildlife to the area; - provide a platform for people of all ages to learn about the environment and biodiversity.
