Appin Rainforest Regeneration Project

Appin Rainforest Regeneration Project will promote and support regeneration of Appin’s significant rainforest remnants. The project has two strands: the removal of invasive non-native species (INNS) across c.11,000 ha. (85% of the Appin Community Council area); and work with local landowners to deliver improved herbivore management, focusing particularly on deer control. This landscape-scale project builds upon work previously undertaken to control invasive rhododendron in Glen Creran, a project that has been used as an exemplar for community-based rainforest regeneration. The present Phase 1 Delivery Project expands the scope and scale of previous work, with landowners and the wider community working collaboratively across the whole of the Phase 1 area. The project has been developed by Appin Community Development Trust and its delivery mechanism is designed to generate a mix of sustainable economic and social benefits for the local community in addition to regenerating environmental heritage that is of international significance.
