Archives of a Crescent

Through this project, Cut Moose aims to: 1. Preserve Hilldrop Crescent’s living heritage by transcribing and archiving the oral histories of 20+ residents aged 15 to 90 from diverse backgrounds, depositing recordings and creative outcomes with Islington Heritage Services for long-term public access. 2. Foster dialogue and safeguard local heritage through two public events: a) Communal exhibition at Hilldrop Community Centre and Islington Museum, with podcast playback, participant portraits and community artwork inspired by local stories. b) Creative interpretation of heritage Archives of a Crescent at the Pleasance Theatre, sharing these histories with a wider public. Both will include interactive feedback sessions and “archival lunch talks”, inviting attendees to share memories and objects for a growing community archive. The wider goal is to reframe the area’s cultural narrative, celebrating community strength, resilience and shared identity while reaching participants whose stories have never been heard.
