Art of Family Life

We will widen access to heritage learning for people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds living in Scotland. Through our lens of prevention, mental health and well-being we will explore how the expression of family cultural practices within refugee communities has heritable value and is placed as part of the story of the heritage of family life in Scotland. Working with the Oral History at the University of Strathclyde we will train at least 15 volunteers to gather testimony from contributors from refugee backgrounds on the heritage of their family practices and why the connection to that heritage is important to them. Working with our partner, Common Ground (CCA), we will deliver a series of creative workshops to in excess of 40 people with lived experience to further exploring this heritage. We will share this emerging heritage through public exhibitions and through events including the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.
