At War & In Peace: the WW2 Home Front and Post-War Reconstruction in Northumberland

Northumberland Archives would like to celebrate the contribution that the people of Northumberland made to the war effort during World War 2. 2025 is the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2 and this anniversary will be marked by cultural and heritage organisations nationally. It is likely that an additional Bank Holiday will be granted to mark the anniversary. Our collections include many stories of the contributions made by the people of Northumberland to the war effort and post-war reconstruction. We plan to tell some of these stories via a series of exhibtions, events, and schools education activities. Our research will involve looking at uncatalogued collections and we will catalogue and digitise some of these collections as part of our project. We will also interview members of families who lived in the Polish resettlement camp at Morpeth.
