Basketry : Rescuing, Reviving, Retaining
Ruthin Craft Centre’s main focus is on the quality and nature of contemporary craftwork, which always has its origins in the particular craft discipline that has been developed by makers over hundreds and sometimes thousands of years. This project gives the opportunity to explore and share with our audiences the detail and importance of those historic links with basket making. “Our basketry heritage includes a wide range of functional baskets that will have been traditionally used for domestic, industrial, agricultural and fishing purposes. … And they are always handmade; no machine has yet been developed that can make a basket.” Heritage Crafts
