Culture And Memory

Be Here - Be You – Belong!

This project celebrates the rich and diverse heritage of ethnic minority communities in Armagh while recognising the shared history of Irish and Ulster Scots communities. It is essential for newcomers who want to preserve their traditions and feel a sense of belonging, offering the wider community a deeper understanding of their neighbours. By capturing oral histories, hosting cultural nights, and organising a large-scale outdoor event, we ensure that languages, customs, and migration stories are not lost but preserved, shared and valued. Our project also promotes inclusion, access, and participation by breaking down barriers that often exclude ethnic minorities from heritage spaces. Through meaningful involvement in planning and performance, as well as cross-community excursions, we ensure equal opportunity to engage with heritage. By including Irish and Ulster Scots voices alongside newcomer communities, we build mutual respect, increase representation, and foster a more cohesive, connected and tolerant Armagh for all.
