Beating the Drum for Heritage Music

The Beating the Drum partnership will commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign by promoting young people's engagement with musical culture and heritage. The three year initiative will: 1) Transform learning of Balkan and Middle Eastern music and culture across primary and secondary schools, addressing gaps in national support and representation. 2) Position Enfield Music Service as national leader for heritage music education, developing adaptable templates for UK schools. 3) Empower 90 sixth-form students as heritage ambassadors through the Museum of Music History five-day archive skills courses, studying original WWI artefacts, writings, and music. 4) Celebrate creativity and reconciliation by showcasing students’ compositions and writings, Gallipoli artworks, and a commissioned song cycle blending heritage soundscapes of nations affected by the conflict. Performances will be filmed and widely shared. These actions will ensure that Gallipoli's legacy becomes a platform for cross-cultural learning, youth empowerment, and artistic remembrance.
