Births, Marriages and Deaths (and everything in between): An Oral History of the Liverpool Irish

Our organisation aims to preserve and celebrate the rich yet underrepresented heritage of the Liverpool Irish community, by recording oral histories, producing digital outputs, and hosting public events, we will create a lasting, accessible record that captures the lived experiences of migration, identity, and belonging. This project will safeguard at-risk memories, broaden participation in heritage, and strengthen skills through community workshops in oral history and archiving. By engaging prominent figures, including Jimmy McGovern and Mike McCartney, and everyday dual heritage voices, we will foster pride, representation, and intergenerational dialogue. Our outputs over three years – include a film, podcasts, an exhibition, and a digital migration map – this will enhance understanding of Liverpool’s Irish heritage and contribution to the city’s identity. All materials will be freely available online, ensuring a sustainable digital legacy. We will make this heritage better identified, better recorded, and better understood for future generations.
