“When I was growing up, I knew very little about my heritage. It was not taught in schools, my parents felt embarrassed to talk about it, and there was little encouragement to explore history. Only later, with the internet, films and documentaries, did I begin to piece together a sense of belonging. I founded Genesis Sun to avoid that same disconnection, bring communities together and encourage young people. Our community of African, Caribbean and mixed-heritage young people tell us they want to learn inclusive history, develop identity and feel inspired about their future. Through partnership with Journey to Justice, we have seen how powerful storytelling can bring history to life. Together, our vision is to ensure no young person in the Black Country grows up ignorant or embarrassed about their heritage. By collecting, preserving and sharing stories, we will create a lasting legacy of pride, identity and inclusion." Diane Spence
