Culture And Memory
The title of our heritage project will be Blackburn’s South Asian heritage: past, present, and future. The 18-month project will research, preserve, interpret, share, and celebrate the rich and proud South Asian heritage that exists within Blackburn and that has contributed to the overall rich cultural tapestry of our town over the past 70 years. Key community heritage themes will inform our project. The themes are significant and relevant to the South Asian community within Blackburn including migration, food and fashion, integration, employment including NHS employment, religion and business growth and development. Youth Action Young Ambassadors will take a lead role within our project. With support from the project team. It will be intergenerational in every sense, involving young and old- without losing site that our heritage project will aim to empower young people, to be proud of their own identity and feel proud to be who they are.
