Brit-Bangla Heritage Fest : Dhamail

The vision for this project is to highlight and showcase ‘Dhamail’,a British-Bangladeshi intangible cultural heritage. Originating from Sanskrit roots about 300 years ago in Bengal, Dhamail intertwines mythological storytelling with music and dance. Despite its historical significance, lack of exposure and preservation, the heritage is on the verge of extinction. This project aims to: Perform, record and promote, the cultural authenticity of Dhamali via publication embedded with historic photographs accompanied by performances, oral presentations, storytelling, audiovisual and Q&A. Creating a physical repository at Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives (THLHLA), online archive on the Mukto Arts website and promoting on Idea Store Library to ensure project transmission for future generations. Empower marginalised British-Bengali women, bolster identity among young British Bengalis, and promote wellbeing through Dhamail's nostalgic tunes and memories. This project focuses on the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and individuals nationwide with strong connections to the borough.
