Britannia making waves -

Our project aims to restore the Historic Ship, Britannia as a fully operational vessel, creating lasting benefits for Maritime Exeter and beyond. By generating income through commercial charters, we will offer subsidised sailing experiences to disadvantaged groups, making maritime heritage accessible to all. Britannia will serve as a hub for community engagement, providing hands-on training for future shipwrights and volunteers, helping to preserve traditional skills and support local employment. We will involve local people, charities, and volunteers in every stage, fostering pride and participation in Exeter’s maritime heritage. Educational programmes aboard Britannia will raise awareness of marine sustainability and pollution, inspiring environmental stewardship. Our activities will strengthen community connections, increase public involvement with heritage, and promote wellbeing through inclusive opportunities on the water. By working with local partners and expanding our traineeship programme, we aim to ensure Britannia’s restoration delivers meaningful, long-term benefits for Maritime Exeter and the wider community.
