Culture And Memory
We propose to hold regular Classical Kathak Indian dance workshops providing young people (aged between 6-17) with an opportunity to connect with the culture and heritage of South Asia thus building their self-esteem / self-confidence, enabling them to better understand the history and traditions of this culture. 18% of children aged 2-15 are at risk of developing obesity (https://www.gov.scot/publications/scottish-health-survey-2022-volume-1-main-report/pages/12/). This is above the 7% target the Scottish Government is aiming to achieve by 2030. Our project will seek to educate beneficiaries about heritage whilst also remaining active and healthy, thus contributing towards improving their overall health and wellbeing and lowering obesity rates in Scotland. Dance sessions will be held in a culturally sensitive environment, delivered by people with lived-experience of belonging to the South Asian community. The project will encourage young people from diverse backgrounds to participate, promoting social cohesion across communities (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XaVz7MMiztli3yZhReC3TI8vbmD3oTGS?usp=drive_link).
