Building up a Head of Steam Two

We will restore Fisheries Research Vessel (FRV) Explorer and use it to tell stories about Scotland’s role as a centre for marine science, fishing and shipbuilding. Visitors will be able to experience the life and work onboard a Scottish fisheries research ship, from the 1950s to the 1980s. They will see purpose-built science laboratories, fishing equipment and technology used to understand the health of the seas and still relevant today. The original triple-expansion steam engine will make the connection to Scotland’s industrial past. These stories will be brought to life using personal testimonies, film and photographs from the people who worked on board, whether as the team of international scientists, or as the ship’s officers and crew. To achieve this, we will strengthen our organisation, continue to protect the fabric of the vessel, expand our community outreach, and develop an interpretation plan.?
