Bute Community Forest: Protecting Bute’s Rainforest and Celebrating the History of the North End of the Island

Our aim is to protect Bute’s Rainforest and celebrate the history of the North End of the Island. We will deliver vital conservation work to protect the natural forest heritage and create a strategic plan which will be used by future generations. Bute Forest offers a rich archaeological resource which charts the everyday past lives intimately related with the woodland. Drawing on the wider island heritage work delivered through the Discover Bute Landscape Partnership Scheme, our key objective is to (re)introduce people to the woodland through engagement with its heritage. We will do this by improving access and interpretation, linking heritage sites, and telling the story of our community forest. We will engage visitors, by organising events and activities, to enhance the volunteering programme which is actively ongoing at Bute forest. To improve the visitor experience and access, a new Welcome Hub and car park will be created.
