Culture And Memory

Butts 4 Houses Project

Our aim is to involve Year 5 children from the school, their parents, and members of the local community in working with professionals to research into the lives of the four significant characters from the town's history whose give their names to the four school houses - namely, the nurse Dorothy Pattison, the writer Jerome K. Jerome, the flying ace Sidney Webster, and the 1st World War VC hero, John Carless. Using the research, the children and parents will work with a local historian, a writer, an illustrator and a theatre director, to create illustrated ballads which will form the basis of a dramatic performance, presented as part of the school's 50th anniversary celebrations in the summer of 2025.
