Nature And Landscape

Buzzing in the East End (Southeast London)

Buzzing in the East End (Southeast London) is an innovative project developed to protect and conserve rare bumblebees in 4 boroughs, Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham. Through this project we want to: • Gain a better understanding of the distribution and abundance of all bumblebees, especially rare species. • Increase bumblebee-friendly habitat on 8 flagship sites, 19 community hubs and 14 local farms. • Improve the landscape connectivity of greenspace for bumblebees. • Increase understanding and appreciation of the importance of bumblebees, highlighting threats such as the increased competition for forage from honeybees. • Work alongside a diverse range of organisations and community groups, with a focus on faith and mental wellbeing, to inspire them to take action for bumblebees. • Put in place a network of volunteers that contributes to BeeWalk, our national bumblebee monitoring scheme and that act as Bumblebee Champions in the local community.
