Change Makers: Addressing the Impacts of Edinburgh’s Slavery and Colonial Heritage

The City of Edinburgh Council, in partnership with the independent ESCLR Implementation Group, will engage stakeholders and residents in overseeing delivery of the Edinburgh Slavery and Colonisation Legacy Review report recommendations. An Advisory Group will oversee the work of a Project Officer who will lead on creation of learning and communication resources aligned with the recommendation objectives. They will nurture relationships, collect and disseminate information about activities happening city-wide to address this legacy, and promote anti-racism and decolonial practice. A new network of heritage, academic, community and creative organisations will consolidate and maximise efforts to increase understanding of Edinburgh’s colonial past and role in the transatlantic slave trade. This project will engage the public as it examines models across the UK and beyond to develop a blueprint for Edinburgh and sustain the work of partners in decolonising practices and reshaping relationships around the four pillars: Heritage, Knowledge, Community and Culture.
